WHO am i?
My name is Mark ‘Thrax’ Johnson.
I’ve been a professional Tattoo Artist for more than 25 years. Seeing plenty of tattoo fashions come and go.
My preferred style is blackwork and grayscale shading, from illustrative, Anime to portrait realism.
I enjoy producing larger sleeve designs involving Ancient Greek, Viking and other Religious Themes.
That said, I’m not afraid of colour and I’m happy to Tattoo anything involving full colour realism and dare I say it, cute, colourful sticker style tattoos.
I tend to avoid fine line tattoos as I’m a little Old School and still believe they dont stand the test of time. Bold will hold!
I also tend to refuse delicate water colour style tattoos as if I’m honest there are other artists who do that sort of thing more often and better than me.
So if you want something sick, scary, bold, nicely shaded, maybe the odd skull. Something that will make you look at least 20% more attractive… Probably… I’m your Artist!
HISTORY
Residing in Leicester, UK, I was originally mentored by Mr Lee whom owned a successful tattoo studio based at Braunstone Gate, close to the city center of Leicester.
I finally completed my first tattoo on another person in October 1997. Yeah, it was an Ex-Girlfriend.
It was a couple of years later that Lee handed me the keys to his studio, called ‘Bodytech’ following his decision to retire to Thailand.
I continued at that location until it changed its name and became a limited company in 2001.
Fast forward to June 2021 when, after the rigors of lock down, I decided to walk away from the old studio as in my opinion, I felt I couldn’t continue to tattoo at my best ability as the tattoo studio became more a toxic environment. This decision was a difficult one but ultimately better for my mental health.
Skin City Leicester
Since 2021 I’ve become Self Employed, and I currently tattoo from Skin City, based in the heart of Leicester’s city center.
This Studio is owned and run by the Legend that is Jimmy C and has been a popular tattoo location in Leicester for more than 20 years. So to be a part of this wonderful team is an honour.

We are open 5 days a week, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am till 5pm.
